My head throbbed as I headed up the stone steps to Beacon Hills High. My nose was running and my eyes were burning behind my glasses. I had to ride on the bus today because Stiles hadn’t showed up this morning. He usually gave me a ride to school but today, he didn’t pick up his phone. He didn’t even answer any of my texts. Actually, he did, but they were really lazy short answers telling me that he wasn’t going to be able to make it this morning and that he was sorry. Stiles hadn’t even wished me a “happy birthday.” I would have at least taken a text version of it. But nope.

What a crummy start to my birthday.

Making my way into the school, I saw Lydia and Kira by Lydia’s locker. They stopped talking almost the second that I wandered up to them. “Morning guys,” I said, smiling slightly.

Lydia smiled while Kira rambled out a “good morning, (y/n).” Neither of them said much of anything other than that. I frowned slightly. They hadn’t forgotten my birthday, had they? I bit my lip, pushing the thought to the back of my head. I decided not to say anything about it. I wasn’t exactly in the mood to complain about it.

I leaned against the locker beside them, watching their eyes follow me. “Neither of you have seen Stiles this morning, have you? He was supposed to give me a ride this morning but sent a bit of a lame text telling me that he couldn’t make it.”

Kira glanced quickly between Lydia and I before a quick stream of words poured through her mouth. I was almost sure that I wasn’t going to be able to keep up.

“Nope, no, um, no. Haven’t seen him, have we Lydia? I know that I haven’t heard from him today or even yesterday for that matter. I can’t even remember the last time that I heard from him. Maybe the day before – I’m not sure.”

I stared at her, blinking. I was used to Kira’s occasional ramblings but she usually only rambled that fast when she was nervous about something. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Lydia tilt her head to the side, pursue her lips and roll her eyes slightly.

“Sorry, (y/n). I haven’t heard from him today, either. But we’ve got to get going. We’ve got some studying to do, right Kira?” Lydia’s voice was tight as she responded. She didn’t wait for Kira to reply. Lydia told ahold of Kira’s elbow and all but dragged her down the hallway without so much as a goodbye. Or a “happy birthday.”

I watched their backs receding as they melded into the crowd of students and rubbed my running nose with the bottom of my cardigan sleeve. I shouldn’t have even got out of bed today. I knew it wasn’t worth coming to class. And this had been one of the few times I had decided on coming – usually my parents didn’t care if I skipped class or not. Then again, at least they had wished me a happy birthday. I should be thankful for that, but it didn’t stop the hurt I felt for not hearing it from my friends.

Taking off towards my locker, I could feel the burning behind my eyes and I knew it hadn’t been from the fact that I was sick. I tried to squeeze them tight to force the tears away – it wasn’t exactly helping. The last thing I wanted to do was cry at school, let alone on my birthday.

I knew I should have stayed at home.

My locker wasn’t that far down the hallway and I was lucky enough to have it by my first period class. If it hadn’t been, I would probably be more than late to class like I had been last year.

I stopped in my tracks when I caught sight of Stiles and Scott about halfway down the hall, talking with their heads bowed as if in some sort of secret conversation. I frowned and wondered if I should wander up to them and see what excuse he’d give for not being able to pick me up this morning. Then again, if it was some wolf-y thing then I shouldn’t be that upset; those things aren’t always exactly their fault. But if I wanted to get to my locker, I had to pass them anyway.

Taking a deep breath, I set off towards them, plastering a smile on my lips. “Morning, Scott, Stiles,” I said to each when I was within hearing distance. Then again, I’m sure Scott could have heard me no matter where I’d been but Stiles didn’t exactly have the super hearing of a wolf.

The two of them jumped up, surprised. Stiles grabbed his heart as if I’d frightened the living daylights out of him. My eyes were wide in surprise myself. He’d half scared me with that jump!

“(y/n)! Hey, uh, hi,” Stiles began, awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. “You totally scared the living hell out of me there. Don’t do it again,” he joked.

Raising a confused brow, I said, “If you hadn’t been so caught up in your ‘secret conversation,’” I used air quotes to emphasize. “Then you might’ve known that I hadn’t been intending on sneaking up on you, dearie.”

“Ha! Haha,” he laughed awkwardly, elbowing Scott who seemed to do the same. Why was everyone acting so weird today?

I eyed the two of them suspiciously. “Seriously though, why if everyone acting so weird today? Last I checked it wasn’t a full moon?” I joked.

Stiles laughed again, a little too forced. He draped his arm over my shoulders, pressing a kiss to my temple. “Ah, Scott, I told you she was funny. Isn’t my girlfriend just hilarious?”

Scott didn’t exactly know what to say. “Psh, yeah. (y/n) always comes up with the funniest of things. Ha, full moon! Never would have thought of that one.”

I pulled Stiles’ arm off my shoulders. Something obviously wasn’t right with the two of them. And I can’t even mention that fact that neither of them had yet to wish me a happy birthday. I bit my inner cheek, hurt once more. “Okay, whatever is going on, I don’t exactly care. I’m not in the mood for it.”

Stiles honestly looked offended and hurt by my actions and remark. “What do you mean “whatever’s going on?” Nothing’s going on, right Scott?”

“Of course, just a, ya know, normal day,” Scott shrugged. “Well, for Beacon Hills at least.”

“Whatever, I’ll see you in class,” I mumbled as the first bell rang. I hadn’t even made it to my locker yet.

“Wait, (y/n)!” Stiles’ voice drowned out in the sea of the students who were finally making their way to class. I’d just deal with being late – I needed to get my books.

I stopped in front of my locker, putting in my combination. My eyes widened when I opened it. Okay, I had not been expecting that. I couldn’t help the heat that pooled at my cheeks and the smile that crossed my lips. I can’t believe I ever thought he’d forget.

“I honestly can’t believe that you thought I would forget your birthday,” Stiles said, leaning on the locker beside me. He had a large smile on his face at seeing my reaction. I fingered the roses before dropping down and finally picking up the little bear in front of them. He was even dressed up like a little Sherlock Holmes.

“This is too disgustingly cute, you know.” I wrapped my arms around the bear, hugging him to my chest.

“I know, only the best for you,” Stiles chirped, surprising me by planting a kiss on my lips.

When he pulled away I finally said, “You know I’m sick, right?”

He wrinkled his nose, shrugging. “All the more for us to skip the rest of the day. What do you think?”

I stepped forward and pulled him into a hug, feeling his arms quickly wrap around me. “Only if we have a Sherlock marathon.”

“Sherlock then Star Wars, deal?”

“Obviously. Best birthday, ever.”
My 23rd birthday was a couple weeks ago and I've been dying to write something for Stiles. Heck, I've been dying to write a one shot period! It's been such a long time and I've been so busy with trying to finish my Bachelor's degree. Sorry for being so inactive. :C

But here is something hopefully lovely! This is actually my first reader insert kinda one shot, so I hope it's alright. And sorry if anyone is a bit outta character. :c

I don't own the characters of Teen Wolf.
